It is tradition that "uniform of the day" in the nautical world is "whites" between Memorial Day (sometimes Easter) and Labor Day. "Blues" after Labor Day but before Memorial Day (with "Whites" for Easter service). Khakis and Dungarees (jeans) are appropriate year round as a "working" attire.
Simply tradition.
Same reason we wear a white sports coat (instead of tuxedo jacket) to summer formal affairs.
The white color reflects heat whereas dark colors absorb them. In the summer, we'd like to reflect as much heat as possible - especially if on deck without AC.

I have seen white yachts and white pants, but never a yacht wearing pants with men on board.
Don't you hate the a**holes whom correct every little sentence structure and complain about the semantics of the words you use.

I have only worn white pants one time! Unfortunately there are pictures to prove it too. The year was 1988 and it was the spring and I was going to my Prom and I had a tux with white pants and a bright blue jacket, they were from the "Don Johnson" collection.

I didn't have a yacht either, not even a dingy!

its a 'rich guy at a marina' thing. i dont pretend to understand it. :))
