Fishing Charters
Two_Seven_Deuce asked:
I want to do some ocean fishing and I am thinking about going on a charter boat. Do I have to have a group put together before I can book a charter or do the charter companies just book individuals into groups and then go out? Also I live in Gettysburg, PA and I am thinking about fishing out of Ocean City MD. Any recommendations there or in another place?
Thanks.

Depends on the charter. There are large charters that carry upwards of one hundred people that are on a “first-come, first, served” basis. I really don’t recommend them if you’re serious about fishing. It’ more of a really big party barge. They typically run about 50-100 dollars a day per person, and maybe less.
There are private charters that charge a flat rate by the day, half-day, etc. You book the boat, and then collect up a couple of friends to split the cost. It probably runs about 800-1000 dollars per day, and you get individual attention. Sometimes you can find a captain who needs to split a charter, which means he has maybe two people booked, but needs four and you split the price with a couple of strangers.
Most charter boats have a fuel surcharge now because of the price of fuel.
