YES…it is possible. While in the Coast Guard we were working the 96 olympics in Tybee GA and lightening strikes were all around us. I also worked several lightening strike rescues…however… Usually a mast or antenna whip is the first to get struck and the electrick is absorbed by the vessel (not without electrical damage)

Only if the wife caused it.

Happens more frequently than to golfers, as a percentage. So, yes! Duck and cover!

I bet that you are going on a yacht or someone near to you…
their is a small chance of getting hit by lightning if they go into a thunder storm and get wet and its raining then the chance of getting hit by lightning will be greater than before

Sure if your near the mast or touching any metal on the boat and lighting strikes your at risk.

yes – I got zapped on a yacht one time. I was crew on a race in a storm. There was a lightning strike next to the boat, I pull my hand off of the boom which was metal and then my hand accidentally hit the vang which is also metal and that is when it got zapped. It was not much. It was not a direct strike on the boat. Metal masts are usauly grounded to the water and so even though they are tall they don’t get struck as much.

It happens, but it is very rare. Whoever thinks it happens to sailors more than Golfers have been hagging out too long in the same places as Tiger Woods lately.
It is well known that Golf Courses get far more lightning strikes then boats.
Vessels at sea do get hit by lighning but it is very rare, and an individual on a boat getting hit by lightning is even rarer still.
I am a big promoter of "living the dream" and for individuals and couples sailing off to Paradise and even on around the world. Planned properly, with the right boat, it can be done safely, comfortably and on a far more frugal budget then most realize.
Sadly, (very sadly) far too many "myths" prevent people from living this dream. From thinking it is only afforded to rich and accomplished sailors, to fear of hitting icebergs, being attacked by Jaws, to not being able to bathe for weeks – So, don’t let anyone add "being struck by lighning" to your reasons for not going… You have a greater chance of that happening on the Golf Course, and at Disney World…
